THE SALAMANDER (1971, ALAIN TANNER, A+++++)

THINGS SEEN FROM 23-30 JUNE 2007

1.COUP POUR COUP (1972, Marin Kamitz, A+)
From video

2.THE SALAMANDER (1971, Alain Tanner, Switzerland, A+)
From video

I fell in love with the character Rosemonde (Bulle Ogier) in this film. I fell in love with her after I saw her shaking her head to the music and keeping shaking her head for a long time after the music has stopped.

Many years ago I saw FOURBI (1996, Alain Tanner, B+) at Alliance Francaise. I think FOURBI is kind of like a sequel to THE SALAMANDER. The characters in these two films have something similar, though the films are not really connected. The connection between these two films is kind of like the connection in Wong Kar-wai's films, in Philippe Garrel's films, or in Andre Techine's films. There is something in these films which reminds the viewers of something in other films by the same directors.

I think that if I have a chance to see FOURBI again, I might like it more. Now I can't remember anything in FOURBI.

3.PANTOMIME IN BANGKOK 10/2 (A+)
This is a stage play at AUA auditorium.

4.LENA'S DREAMS (1997, Gordon Eriksen + Heather Johnston, A+)
From video

This film gets only 3.7/10 points from the users in imdb.com, but I love this film very much.

From the Back Cover of the DVD of this film

"Lena (Marlene Forte) is a Latina actress, now hitting her mid-thirties, and
struggli ng to have a career, a relationship and a life. During one emotionally intense day, after experiencing an argument with her boyfriend, the dismissive attitude of her agent, auditions which offer only ethnically typecast roles, and difficult rehearsals for an off-Broadway play which receives snide newspaper reviews, Lena vows to quit the business. Just hours later, when she is offered a major role in a new Broadway production, Lena must suddenly reconsider career, her relationship, and everything she has ever worked for. "

How can this film gets 8.0/10 in imdb.com while LENA'S DREAMS gets 3.7/10? Now I truly understand that the lesser points the film gets, the better the film must be. Hahaha.

--There are many pieces of art shown in SOME PROPOSALS FOR THE NEXT FUTURE, including a sketch by Arin Rungjang (the one who directed NEVER CONGREGATE, NEVER DISREGARD). The sketch is called AND THEN LOVE WILL LIVE IN ITS WAY (2007). This sketch is "manipulated" from MONK BY THE SEA (1809, Caspar David Friedrich)

I don't have a photo of AND THEN LOVE WILL LIVE IN ITS WAY. I only have MONK BY THE SEA here below:
