TIME AND CONTINUATION (2004, SUDSIRI PUI-OCK, A+++++)

I went to the exhibition TRACES OF SIAMESE SMILE last Sunday. It shows several videos which I saw already, but it also shows at least 17 videos which I didn’t see before. I enjoy watching them a lot, and spent three hours watching these 17 videos.

1.TIME AND CONTINUATION (2004, Sudsiri Pui-ock, A+++++++++++++++)

2.MEMORIAL PROJECT NHA TRANG, VIETNAM: TOWARDS THE COMPLEX – FOR THE COURAGEOUS, THE CURIOUS AND THE COWARDS (2001, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, A++++++++++)

3.SELF-PORTRAIT AS A THEATER (2002, Yasumasa Morimura, A++++++++++)

4.MANET’S LUNCHEON ON THE GRASS AND THAI VILLAGERS (2008, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, A++++++++++)
This 16-minute video is shown in the basement of the building.

5.YOGYA BINTANG HOUSE MINI (2008, Yoshitomo Nara + Graf, A+)
This animation is showed in a TV in a small house. The inside walls and the floor of this house are decorated by Nara’s drawings. I’m not sure what this animation is trying to say. Is a part of this animation is about child prostitution?

6.BALANCE OF TERROR (2007, Sakarin Krue-on, A+)
The screen which shows this video is situated behind a small oil well. The viewers must be very careful so that they don’t fall into the oil well. I’m not sure if this video is about terrorism or not.

7.SEA PUNISHING (2005, Marina Abramovic, A+)
This video is shown in two screens, but the two screens are on the two sides of the same wall. So the viewers can’t watch the two screens at the same time. The viewers must choose to be on any one side of the wall at one time to watch one of the screens.

8.LUMINOUS PEOPLE (2007, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, A+)

9.THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME (2008, Shane Bunnag, A+)
I think this video is not very interesting. But what is interesting is the installation, because this video is shown on the testicles of a big child sculpture called BETTER THAN EVER: PIKABOO! HEARD YOU ARE DESPERATELY SEEKING A LEADER AROUND HERE (2008, Chatchai Puipia)

10.THE BOXER (2008, Mette Tronvoll, A+)

11.MANGO GIRL (2008, Wisut Ponnimit, A+)
This is an animation video installation. The story in this video is the continuation from the story which is told by the drawings on the wall near the TV showing this video.

12.BANGKOK I (Peter Johansson + Kamol Phaosavasdi, A+)

13.GRACELAND (2008, Paolo Canavari, A+/A)

14.ORIGINAL THAVORN (2008, Thavorn Ko-udomvit, A)

This video is inspired by the painting SEATED MAN (1974, Chakrabhand Posayakrit)
